Durham Magneto Optics Ltd was started in 2002 as a spin-off company from Dr Russell Cowburn’s nanomagnetism research group in Durham University Physics Department.

Russell Cowburn has worked in magneto-optics for 10 years; during the last 6 years he has refined a design of magnetometer known as ‘NanoMOKE’ for scientific research in the area of magnetic nanotechnology.  The NanoMOKE is optimised for studying nanometre-scale magnetic structures.  Such structures include thin magnetic films, lithographically patterned arrays and isolated nanostructures and magnetic tunnel junctions.

A number of researchers from around the world have recently commented on the unusually high performance of the Durham NanoMOKE system and asked whether it was possible to buy one.  In response to this, Durham Magneto Optics Ltd was formed.  We exist to provide state-of-the-art MOKE magnetometers, customised to your needs.

Our design philosophy is to leave the customer with as much flexibility as possible, making these magnetometers true research machines.

In 2005, Durham Magneto Optics relocated its operations to within the Physics Department of Imperial College London
